We are excited to be throwing open the doors of the Bottle Shop for the first time for a special, free-to-attend family showing of the Christmas favourite, ‘The Polar Express’.
This unique festive event will take place on Saturday 20th December, starting at 4pm.
A Truly Unique Festive Experience
The event is completely FREE, although tickets must be booked in advance. People and families are invited to join the festive fun, which includes:
- The Polar Express: Screened on the historic furnace floor.
- Santa’s Visit: Father Christmas will be in attendance, taking time out of his busy schedule to greet visitors from his sleigh.
- Festive Refreshments: Mince pies and mulled wine will be available for Mums and Dads to purchase, alongside hot chocolate and other treats for children.
We are absolutely delighted that we can now start putting this incredible space to use for community events.
An Iconic Industrial Venue
Project Director, John Tabern, commented: “It has been a long road getting the Bottle Shop to this point and we are absolutely delighted that we can now start putting this incredible space to use for community events. Christmas at the Bottle Shop will be a truly unique experience in an iconic industrial setting. This event acts as a perfect springboard to our ambitious 2026 programme, which includes music, theatre, weddings and much, much more.”
Caroline Platt, Project Support Officer, added: “This is such a pivotal time for us. Our status was recently upgraded by Historic England following significant progress and we couldn’t be more excited at our ability to host large-scale events like this. We’re really looking forward to welcoming as many families as possible on the 20th.”
Restored and Repurposed
Situated just off the Tesco car park, the Grade II listed No. 7 Bottle Shop is now a Scheduled Monument, giving it the same national status as Stonehenge. Opened in 1886, the building was close to complete dereliction when the Cannington Shaw Preservation Trust CIC was formed to save it.
Following an extensive programme of stabilisation and repair, the site has seen a dramatic reversal in its fortunes, preserving a crucial piece of the area’s industrial heritage for future generations.
